                  Ships built in Maryland.                          P. R. O.

                                                                    B. T. Md. 3.

   

    Maryland, Sct.

      In obedience to an Ordr of his Excy the Govr and Council

    bearing date the 28th day of May 1697, Commanding the

    severll Sherifis of this Province to make strict enquiry of what

    Shipps and Vessels trading to Sea have been built within

    their respective Countys since his MajtYs happy Reign, as also

    what Sloops and Shaliops to the County belong, and what

    are now a building, together with the number of seafaring

    men. Pursuant whereto they make their Returns, vizt.:

   

   

            The Sheriff of Ann arundll County.

      The Brigantine George, built by Jno. Buck of Bytheford.

      The Annapolis, built by Jno. Buck of Bytheford

      The Ship Marygold, built by Jno. Davis of Bytheford

      The Betty Brigantine purchased into this County by his

    Excy the Govr etc. Capt. Richard Hill, Capt. Wm. Holland,

    Capt. Richard Hill for Mr. Richard Johns, Mr. Wm. Cole,

    Senr, Mr. Saml Chew, Mr. Richard Harrison, Mr. Nehemia

    Birckhead, Mr. Mordica Moore, and Commanded by Mr.

    Hen Hill.

      The Adventure, purchased and owned by the same owners

    and commanded by Mr. Thomas ffrancis.

      The Su3annah Brigantinc, built by Richard Beard, Com

    manded by Edwd Baiter, bound to New England and lost att

    Cape May three years since.

      One Brigandyne in building by Mr. Jno. Buck of Bytheford

      One Vessel in Building by Thomas Hardin, Jno. Baldwin,

    Neal Clarke, Tho. Rutland, Richd Snowden and some others

    who expect to be fitted to Sea by the Spring and design for

    Barbadoes. Comanded by Tho. Goodwin, have shippt no

    men yet. In all, 8 Sloops built within this County.

      Abrm Childs built one Sloop, wch was lost in the Bay 3 or 4

    years since.

   

    Thomas Tench Esqr 1 Sloope       Nicho. Spurne 1 Sloope

    Mordicah Moore 1 Sloope          Steph. ffrancis 1 Sloope

    Abra Childs 1 Sloope

   

      Mr. Jeffries built 1 sloope and sold her to Thomas Beale

    and Richd Bars last year. Major John Hamond partly built a

    sloop and sold her on the stocks to Capt. Deane Cock last

    year.
