M. “use of this Extravagant Expression Viz: that he wou'd as “soon be Damn'd to a Truffle, as Submit. and be bullied by “them, notwithstanding there was so many of ‘em and had a “Sword, upon which this Depont Saith, Three or four of the “Company rose of their Chairs and very much Importuned “him to Sitt Down with ‘em, he also Saith that he Directly “Called for a Bowl of Punch, & satt Down with ‘em, and “after some Discourse they told this Depont that several1 “people had been peeping in, and Listning to their Discourse “had made Remarks and Spoke of Severall things that was “said amongst ‘em, and that they thought Mr Peter Taylor to “be one that took Notice of what they said & this Depont for “another, However In a Short time Mr Perrie begun to Curse “the Eastern shore Burgesses prodigiously, because they was “against a Tobacco Law, but particularly James Hollyday “Esqr and that he said Hollyday was not fitt to be in the “House, this Depont saith that he Asked said Mr Perrie why “and said Perrie answer'd that Mr Carrol Bullied and Scared "Mr Hollyday some time ago about a Tobacco Law and that “said Hollyday was Influenced by Esqr Bennett Likewise from “makeing a Tobacco Law. This Depont also saith that he “told Mr Perrie that he never took Mr Hollyday To be Such a p. 5 Man, Neither did he believe that Esqr Bennett ever Concern'd himself so much in State Affairs as to Endeavour to Sway or Rule the Governm' said Perrie Directly Swore by his God it was true and that he wou'd Justifie it to their faces and that he knew Esqr Bennett wou'd give a Thousand pounds to Sub vert the Government, and that there shou'd not be a Tobacco Law. Abundance of more words happned (amongst which) this Depont saith to the best of his knowledge sd Samuel Perrie, one Bigerhead a Young Fellow they Call'd Wilson, and the Afsd Drury that Lost money at Dice, did say and Swear, they wou'd have a hundred Prince Georges County men upon the Stadt House hill Either that week, or the next, to face the Assembly in Order to Obtain a Tobacco Law This Deponant further Saith that he Asked ‘em what good the mens Comeing wou'd do with the Assembly, for, that if they had a mind to Petition for a Tobacco Law, they might do that without Comeing in a Body (better than to Appear in so rude a manner) this Depon' saith that said Bigerhead, some of the rest, and to the best of his Knowl edge Mr Perrie, Answered him in this Manner, That they Cou'd bring fifty Prince Georges County men that Cou'd Drive a hundred Eastern shore men and gett such Laws as they wanted. This Depont further saith that there was a great Deal more unbecoming Discourse Amongst them, but
