At a Council held at the City of Annapolis in the house of his Excellency the Governor on Friday the first of January in the 9th year of his Lordship the Lord Proprietarys Domin- ion &c. Annoq Domini 1724
Were Present The honble Charles Calvert Esqr Governor
Colo Samuel Young Colo William Holland Members of his the honble Colo Richard Tilghman Lordships honble Colo M T Ward Council Benjamin Tasker Esqr His Excellency the Governor acquaints the members of this honble Board that he has appointed George Plater Gent Clerk of his Lordships Council within this Province in the Room of p. 100 the Reverend Samuel Skippon deceased and thereupon the said George Plater produces his Excellencys Commission to him given for the same on the back of which it appears that the said Geo Plater has taken before his Excellency the sev- eral Oaths appointed to be taken by act of Assembly of this province as also the usual Oath for the due Execution of the aforesaid Office and hath Subscribed the Oath of Abjuration and Test according to the directions of the Act aforesaid And thereupon the said George Plater is accordingly ad mitted the Tenor of which Commission is as followeth
Maryland SSt Charles Absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltimore &c to our trusty and well Beloved George Plater of the City of Annap olis in our Province of Maryland Greeting forasmuch as we do Repose special Trust and Confidence in your Integrety Fidelity Skill and Cunning in Clerkship we have thought fit and do by these presents give and Grant unto you the said Geo Plater the Office of Clerk to our Governor and Council of Maryland hereby appointing Authorising and Empowring you to have hold use exercise and Enjoy the said Office and to take and Receive to your own proper use and behoof as well the Sallary usually allowed as also all and Singular other the rights Profits Benefits Perquisites and Advantages thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining in as ample manner as any of the Clerks to our said Governor and Council of Mary p. 101 land have used to have hold exercise and Receive and Enjoy the same for and during our good will and Pleasure Witness our trusty and well Beloved Charles Calvert Esqr our Captain
