September the 8th 1698 The Council again Satt Present His Excellency the Capt Genl &Ca The honble Thomas Tench Esqr Robt Smith, Richd Hill, Tho Tasker, Ino Thompson, Justices Iohn Hawkins, John Pollard, Tho Staly &ca p. 151 George Plater William Dent Es Robert Gouldsborrough q
Agreed that his Majestys Justices of the Provincial Court do advise among themselves to adjourn the Court whether to the first or second tuesday in November next & that notice be given thereof & that no other Court will be held until the spring
Read what was advised on Sunday last in relation to Mr Gerard Sly Then read his narrative & a Letter written to him by W Samuel Watkins of Patuxent Advised that upon the said Slys acknowledging his Offence in open court as well against the Govr as Govt & asking Captain Hills pardon for his abuse & reflections that his Ex cellency be graciously pleased to remit his Imprisonment Further advised that the Fine imposed by the Court on Captain Sly be appropriated to pay those persons that laboured to support the Govt & had great trouble given them for their better Encouragement Read the Condition of the Bond proposed Mr Sly should give for his good Behaviour & advised that the sum he & his Security are bound in be five hundred pounds Sterl Jointly & severally it being Conceived to be better then a greater sum which if forfeited will Scarce be recovered Advised Mr Sly make Oath to his narrative in Open Court p. Mr John Coods rough Draught of Articles of Charge against his Excellency produced & read Mr Gerard Sly being brought before the Board & Submit ting himself to his Excellency altogether humbly begging
pardon & promising better behaviour for the future His Excellency tells him that he has rec'd his petition & Narrative which he is willing to believe
