And the said Annatoquin is acquainted by the Governor that philemon Lloyd Esqr Colo Richd Tilghman and Colo Mathew Tilghman Ward are appointed Commissioners by Law to do them Iustice in relation to their Complaints about the bounds of their Lands The Governor appoints to meet in Council in the Afternoon and Acquaints the Indians that he shall give them notice then to attend he having further to say to them Afternoon p. 7 This Board again met and are present as in the forenoon The said Indians being again sent for appear before this Board Whereupon his Honour the Governor delivers to the said Ghesaont a pass for himself and divers other Indians of his Company to the same Effect with that Given them by the Governor of Pennsylvania for their Travelling to the Gov ernor of Virginia with a Letter to the said Governor which Letter is as follows VlZt
August 19th 1721 Sir The Senequa Indians that are come down to renew Peace with his Majestys Subjects Inhabiting Chesopeak Bay are both the Occasion and Bearers of this Letter which is Agre able to a promise made them upon a Complaint of Injuries done them by the Virginia Indians as we are strangers to the fact and Grounds of the Senequas quarrels with your Indians our Council did not think fit to engage further in the Affair than to show our Readiness to do our parts in Com promising all matters in dispute between those and our friend Indians and therefore promised to write to your Honour in their favour I would not have your Honour believe that I had any manner of doubt in me that any good Offices towards the Composing of that difference would be any ways wanting on your part yet to express our Good will to these Indians that are in Amity with us by a peace treated on and Con cluded with them at Albany 1682 on the behalf of Maryland and Virginia too & Confirm'd at the head of our Bay 1685 our Council thought it very proper for me to entreat your Honours kind Endeavours (according as the merit of the Case shall require) to let Iustice be done to these Complaints so p. 8 that the antient treaties of peace and Friendship may now be renewed between them and his Majestys Subjects of Virginia
