     Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1714. 279

   

    Year of her Age and the thirteenth of her Reigne; A Princess       Lib. W. B.

    of Exemplary Piety and Virtue; Her Majesty complayned on

    Thursday last of a pain in her Head: the next day she was seized

    with Convulsion Fitts, and for some tyme lost the use of her

    Speech, and Senses, which thô she afterwards recovered upon

    the application of Proper Remedies, She continued in a very

    weak and languishing condition till she expired. Upon her

    Death the Lords of the Privy Council immediately Assembled

    at St James's and gave Orders for Proclayming the most High

    and Mighty Prince George Elector of Brunswick Lunenburg,

    King of Great Britain France & Ireland &c. His Majesty

    was accordingly Proclaymed wth the usual solemnity before

    the Gate of His Palace at St James's, at Charing Cross, at

    Temple Bar, at the End of Wood Street in Cheapside and

    lastly at the Royal Exchange Great Numbers of the Nobility

    and Principal Gentry assisted at each Proclamation, and

    attended in their Coaches during the whole Solemnity.

      From Tuesday August the 10th to Saturday Aug. 14th 1714

   

                          Westminster August 5th 1714

      This day the Lords Justices appointed to Administer the

    Government till the Arrival of his Majesty came to the House

    of Peers and sent a Message by Sr Wm Olds Gent. usher of

    the Black Rod requiring their Attendance. The Commons

    went up accordingly and the Lord Chancellor being one of

    the Lords Justices in their name made the following Speech

    to both Houses of Parliament.

   

   

                   My Lords & Gentlemen.

      I having pleased Almighty God to take to Himselfe Our

    late most Gracious Queen of Blessed Memorie Wee hope p. 4

    nothing has been ommitted which might contribute to the safety

    of these Realms and the Preservation of Our Religion Laws

    and Liberties in this great Conjecture. As these Invaluable

    Blessings have been secured to us by those Acts of Parliamt

    which have settled the Succession to these Kingdoms in the

    most Illustrious House of Hannover We have regulated Our

    Proceedings by those Rules which are therein prscribed.

      The Privy Council soon after the Demise of the late Queen,

    Assembled at St James's where according to the sd Acts of

    Parliament the three Instruments were produced and opened,
