              fo. 8o Extract from a letter of Col. Seymour to the lords of

                 Trade 23 June, 1708

                   After strict examination of the best List I could procure of

                 the Number of Inhabitants, they were last year computed to

                 be 33,833 Souls, White and Black, viz. Seven thousand and

                 ninety Christian Men, Six thousand three hundred twenty-five

                 Christian Women, twelve thousand eight hundred and eight

                 Children, three thousand and three White Servants, and four

                 thousand Six hundred fifty seven slaves. Militia 5,738, many

                 ill armed.
