      Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1707. 221

     

      provide them by Tuesday next at Tenn of the Clock in the      Lib. C. B.

      morning before his Exncy & Coll Hamond

       Then was read the following petition Viz.

     

     

      Maryland ss

           To his Excellency John Seymour Esqr &c.

       And to the honble Councill of this province

       The humble petion of Richard Hill of Philadelphia Mercht

       Humbly Sheweth that whereas yor petr about the month of

      October in the Year of our Lord one thousand seaven hun

      dred and four. Shiped 22 hhds of Tobacco out of this prov

      ince in the Sloope Amity for Barbados for which your petir

      paid the Duty of one penny p pound according to Law that

      the said Sloope was taken by the ffrench in her Voyage to

      Barbados whereby your petir lost all the said Tobacco. In

      Consideration whereof.

       May it please yor Excellency & honrs to Grant unto your       p. 81

      petitionr Liberty to Ship the like quantity of Tobacco from

      this province to Barbados or Elsewhere in the West Indies

      free of the said Duty of one penny p pound.

                             And yr petr will ever pray

     

       His Excellency and this Boarde takeing Capt Hills request

      to be reasonable referr the petr to the Officers of her Majestys

      Customes to make their Report what may be legally done in

      Capt Hills ffavour. And in Case it may be Admitted his Ex

      cellency and the board are willing Capt Hill be allowed to

      Shipp of the same quantity of Tobacco free of the Dutys.

     

     

     

       Att a Councill held at the Towne and port of Annapolis the    p. 82

       12th day of August in the Sixth year of her Majestys Reigne

      &c Annoq Dni 1707.

               Present. His Excy the Governour

        The honble Thomas Tench Esq President of her Matys

       Majr Genll John Hamond and Colonel

                                        Councill.

          William Holland            

        Iohn Young Doorkeeper sworne not to reveale the Debates

      and Transactions of the Councill.

        The Sherriff of Ann Arundell County brought Richard

      Snowden before his Excy and the Board And the said Snow

      den tould of his harbouring Entertaining and Concealing

      Richard Clarke in his house he says he is very sorry for it and
