Lib. x. seeming to be in perfect health speaking well & standing about half an hour without leaning His Excellency tells him he is fully perswaded that he has most hyocritically dissembled Imbecility & Sickness the better to colour his Contempts of several warrts & praecepts from his Excellency & this Board requiring him to come up to the port of Annapolis His Excellency tells him that he understands that he the said Mason hath had several consultations with Mr John Cood & that held his Cabals at Mr Slys against this his Majestys Govt & that it had appeared upon oath that he the said Mason was able to ride to Mr Slys & to ride back at a great speed tho the said Mason had always pretended himself altogether uncapable to Come up to Annapolis to do his duty & pass his Accot as Treasurer of the Western shore Mr David Krieger & Mr Zachary Allen Chirurgeons being sent for came & were sworn to make a true Report according to the best of their Judgment whether riding on Horse Back would endanger the said Masons health who report as follow eth Vizt p. 128 To ride on horseback a great way would have been very troublesorn if not very dangerous but to ride on horseback could not endanger his Life David Krieger Dr of the John & Thomas Zach: Allen
Whereupon the Sheriff of Ann Arundell County was Ordered to get an horse for Mr Mason to ride round the Town & then to bring him again before this Board Where being brought the said Drs say that he has sustained no damage Mr Mason is told that his Excellency has recd a Complaint against him made by Mrs Mary Denton Wido & relict of Mr Henry Denton late Clerk of the Council dec'd for that he the said Mason had sold her late husband in his Life time one Negro man slave a white Woman & Mulatto Child which said Child by the Law of this Province then was & now is a Servant belonging to the Ministry of King William & Queen Mary parish in St Marys County until it should arrive at the Age of thirty one years & that she the said Mrs Denton was threatned by the principal Vestryman of that Parish to be Sued for the same His Excellency is pleased to ask Mr Mason if he is not & was not a Vestry man of that parish when he sold the said Negro, white woman & mulatto Child who says he was & is one of that Vestry
