        Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98. 407

   

    Copies of the Registers of all Ships unto them produced & Lib. X.

    transmit the same among other papers & Bonds which by

    Law they are Directed to transmit unto the port of Annapolis

    in Order to be kept among the other Shipping papers Lodged

    in the Clerk of the Councils Office in the New State House

    Ordered that the Kings Lawyers do Consult if Esqr Randolph

    has not by his Commissions and Instructions to the Surveyors p. 24

    of this province Given them Sufficient power to put their

    Commissions in Execution what power may be proper to be

    Given them by this Government

      Upon Motion of the honble Thos Tench Esqr that he is

    Served with a Scire facias at the Suit of his Majesty & desires

    he may be Excused from attending until the 14th Instant the

    same is granted & allowed of

      Advised by this Board that when the arms Come in & are

    Ordered to be disposed of his Excellency would be pleased to

    form the Military Commissions & Instructs

      Mr William Bladen Surveyor and Deputy Collector of the

    Port of Annapolis within the District of Puttuxent & Henry

    Denton Naval Officer of the said Port took the late Oath of

    Trade & Navigation administered by his Excellency at this

    Board

   

   

            At a Council held at the Port of

           Annapolis the 5th day of April 1698

                         Present

               His Excellency the Governor

   

            Sr Thomas Lawrence Bart Secretary

              Collo Henry Iowles Chancellor

    the honble Collo Geo Robotham

             Thomas Tench Esqr

      Collonel Cha Huchins             

      His Excellency is pleased to Acquaint the Board that the

    Reason of his sending for them at this time was upon the

    Accot of an Information given him that the Speaker of the

    house of Delegates had Received from the Clerk a Copy of

    the Journal of the house without the Knowledge Leave & p. 25

    Consent of himself or his Majestys honble Council which he

    looks upon to be a Peice of high Presumption therefore thinks

    it Necessary that the Speaker be sent for & demand to give

    his Reason for so doing Whereupon the Clerk of this Board

    was ordered to go & Commd him in his Majestys name to

    attend his Excellency in Council presently

      The said Mr Speaker came and appeared before this Board

    & his Excellency is pleased to ask him whether he has got a
