298 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1696/7-98.
Lib. H. D. Thursday 11th of Novemr We sent for our horses, went to wait on the Councill but mett them coming to us The Deputy Secry Collo Ienings delivered us two papers as the Councills result upon our matters. We asked if we were to have any further answer; It was return'd there was no further answer. Afterwards in the Hall we asked his Exncy & Councill present if we were to expect any further answer. His Exncy answered that the matter required no further answer then what was given; but there was a Letter from his Exncy the Governt of Maryland which would be answered hereafter. So we took leave and went that night to Collo Ludwells and lodged there. The Governr & Councills Result is annexed. ffryday 12th Novemr Went from Collo Ludwells passed Spencers fferry at the ffreshes of Pomunkey River and lodged Seaven miles beyond at the house of one Carr. Saturday 13th Novemr We passed Mattapany River iferry at Tarborough and so down to Southins iferry kept by one Catlet, went over there & so to Capt Arthur Spicers two Miles off and lodged there that night. Sunday 14th Novemr We came from Capt Arthur Spicers and so to Capt John Withers on Potomock River and lodged there that night. Munday 15th Novemr We came over Potomock in Capt Thomas Bakers small boat to his Shipp Riding at Nanjemy Road, and from thence he set us up in his boat to Lewis Neck, and so we came over Nanjemy Creek to William Dents; and Capt Withers with his fflatt set our horses over Potomock to p. 600 Ccedar point, and the Men ridd them round the same day So that night we all arrived safe at Willm Dents Nanjemy Charles County Maryland. And so ended this Iourney on Munday night the 15th day of Novembr 1697. Tuesday 16th day of Novemr We transcribed our Iournall & writt to his Exncy the Governr of Maryland an Accot of what we had more to say or had observed concerning the praemises &ca Thomas Tench Willm Dent
Afterwards was read a Copy of what the sd Esqr Tench & Major Dent lay'd before his Exncy Sr Edmund Andros and his Majtes honoble Council of Virginia in writing Vizt
