Mr Thomas Poynters Letter to his Exncy desiring to be con tinued deputy Naval Officers at the Inlett by the Seaboard side in Somrsett County, being read was referr'd to Mr Jno West Navall Officer of Pocomoke district & David Kennedy Esqr his Majtys Collectr there to appoint some ffitt person Officer in that place & that the sd Mr West give him a Depu tation accordingly; but tht the oath of Trade & Navigation be administred to such person before he acts, which they the said Esqr Kennedy & Mr West are hereby empowered to administer; and if they dont think it for his Majestyes service to keep an officer there, that then they suffer no vessell to come into that place. Came Mr Ino West Navall Officer of Pocomoke district & made oath to a list of Shipping & his account of the 1s 6d hhd by him collected wthin the said district to this day extend ing to the sum of 45' 11s 00d Sterli. Came Major John Thompson Navall officer of Coecill County & presented his humble Petition setting forth that his office being distant from the heads of Bohemia Elke & Sassa frax Rivers, where the Goods that come from Pensilvania are generally carryed to; and that as by his office he is bound to attend those places, he through hurry of business granted a permitt to Matthew Clemison for goods which he brought over from Pensilvania to trade in every place contrary to his Exncys Proclamation, humbly craving pardon for the same &ca Whereupon the Kings Lawyers were sent for, who came accordingly, & being acquainted wth the said Major Thomp sons submission & that this Board was inclinable to restore him to his place of Navall officer & of being inserted in the Provincial Comission; from both wch he had (for the aforesd offence) been dismissed: did demand of them whether or no it might be legall & proper to doe the same seeing process is now issued against him therefore. Who make answer, that if the said Thompson had persisted in his Error and not acknowledged his fault, it would not be proper nor Legall to restore him to the said places; but seeing he has submitted himselfe, they are of opinion he may be restored to those places notwithstanding such process against him for misfei zance in his Office Ordered thereupon that the sd Major John Thompson be restored to & continued in his Navall Officers place & inserted in the new Provinciall Comission; notwith
