or no; who makes answer that he believes that some of them Lib. H. D. are inclinable & some not, but thinks tht the Emperor is not inclinable to come back. Yet does believe King Peter & p. 558 some others of them would be glad to return if they durst venture for the other Indians. He is asked (if he used to trade Wth them) how much powder he might sell them in a year. Who say's that he has had some small trade wth them, and that he believes he may have sold them 150 weight a year, and does think they may use at least seaven or eight hundred weight a year, but do keep a constant Magazinc by thcm besides.
Produced & read two severall accots sent from Virginia concerning the late assassination comitted by Indians on the boddy of one William Wiggentons wife and three Children in Stafford County, in his Majtys Colony of Virginia aforesaid. One being an Examination taken before some of the Magistrates of tht County; and the other from Capt George Brent of the said County setting forth (among other things) how tht a certain Indian called Esqr Tom, one of the chief actors of the aforementioned Villany, had made his escape from thence into these parts, Then read the deposition of one Moore of Charles County and a Proclamation of his EXnCYS relating to the said Esqr Tom directed to the Sherriff of Charles County aforesd for the seizing & apprehending the said Indian with a reward of five pounds ascertain'd to the person tht should apprehend him &ca And it being signifyed by another paper read tht the said Indian Esqr Tom has since been seen & spoke with by some English Inhabitants of Charles County & suffer'd to escape, notwithstanding his Excellncys said Proclamation. Ordered therefore that a Generall Proclamation issue to the severall Counties of the Province for the seizing & appre hending the said Esqr Tom; and that a reward of Tenn pounds Sterll be therein ascertain'd to the party or parties that shall take & deliver him up in Virginia aforesaid. And tht all persons harbouring or conversing wth the sd Indian be dealt withall according to the utmost severity of the Law.
Octobr the 18th 1697. A Proclamation, being accordingly prepared, was produced read and signed by his Exncy and passed the Broad Scale of the Province, the Tenor whereof follows in these words. Vizt
