Lib. H. D. to himself he said, he Received no Share, but what they were pleased to give him for mending their cloaths and such like; to the quantity of abt 300: pieces of Gold. That after the War rants were out for taking up the Privateers, Charles Goss (one of them) came to one Widw Huttons House to take his leave of her, where in a quarrell with a ffrenchman he was kill'd. That two days after (at the sd Goss's funerall) there happen'd a Riott, wch one Capt Snead a Magistrate of that place, going to Appease & Comanded the Peace, he was violently assaulted and in defending himself from the Rabble, he casually wounded a man. That there was a Rumour of a Carolina Sloop being there, which was intended to Carry of those privateers, but Notice thereof, being given to the Govr he made the master Enter into 2000 lb Bond to the Contrary. But the sd Master being known to be an old Privateer himself in Sus pected notwithstanding to have Carryed the sd Chinton & Lassell away with him. The sd Masters Name is Meddlecot and is said to have been Chyrurgeons Mate to a Privateer tht went to the Persian Sea about ffive years Agoe, whereof it is said tht James Miller one of the Privateers aforenamed was Master.
