Lib. H. D. fforces Sent thither under the Comand of the Rt honrble Coll: John Gibson Comander in Cheif of that Expedition &ca the which being Maturely weighed and Consider'd by this Board, what Course might be best for his Mats Service to be taken they have thought fit to Ordr as it is hereby Order'd that Copys of his matys sd Letter and the Letter of the Rt honrble Wm Stoughton Esq read as aforesd be forthwith prepared and Sent to the Severall Counties of this Province to be made publick hereby Comanding that no Ships or other Vessells trading within this his Mats sd Province for any Provisions of Wheat, Corn, Beefe, Pork, or other Provisions whatsoever be Cleard to goe without giving Sufficient Security to go with the Same to Newfoundland for Supply of his Mats land and Sea fforces there, under the Cornand of the Rt honrble Coll: John Gibson aforenam'd or to the Rt honrble Wm Stoughton Esq Lieutent Governr and Comander in Chief of his Mats Province of the Massachusets Bay in New England as aforesd in Ordr to be sent thither. And for the Encouragemt of all masters and Ownrs of such Ships and Vessells belonging to this Province or any other of his Mats Governmts as will under take to purchase and load with Provisions here, giving Secu rity to goe with the Same, to the End and purpose aforesd. His EXnCY does hereby Promise to pay all Duties and Impo sitions payable upon Exportation of Beefe and Pork and give them his own Dues & will also pay what ffees are due to the Collrs and Navall Officers for Entring and Clearing thereof, who are hereby Ordered not to take any of those Impositions or ffees but send the Accots of the Same to his Exncy Signed p Ordr Hen: Denton Cl Concil.
p. 528 Maryland Port of Annapolis, July the 2nd 1697. Sr Yor Honrs Letter of the 29th of May past together with the Copy of his Mats Royall Letter, to you Inclosed, I did not Re ceive before the of June after. I am very sorry the Burthen of the Warr and the failing of the two last years Crops has so impoverisht and Streightn'd his Mats Subjects in yor Governmt that you cannot be able to give the Assistance Required by his Mats sd Letter in Ordr to the Recovery of the Island of Newfoundland &ca The inclosed Ordr will give yor Honr an Accot what En couragemt is (for his Mats Service) here given for sending Provisions Victualls and Refreshmts thither, as may be Needfull for his Mats Ships and Land fforces Imployed on that Expedition, under the Comand of the Rt hon ble Coll: John Gibson Comander in Chief, to whom I heartily wish good Success.
