                   At Capt Masons, June the 9th 1697.

                   In Obedience to his Exncy Governr Nicholson, his Mats

                 Councill of the Province of Maryland and the House of Del

                 egates Ordr and Comand to Come into this yor Governmt in

                 Ordr to a Treaty with Some Indians that have deserted their

                 Habitacons in the Province of Maryland according to Instruc

                 tions given to Us, a Copy of which his Exncy our Governr Sent

                 by Express to yor Exncy which we hope is Come to your hand,

                 in pursuance of the sd Instructions, we are going to the moun

                 tains, where we understand the Emperor of Piscattoway and

                 other of our Neighbouring Indians are Seated at our Return

                 shall give yor Exncy an Accot of our proceedings in that Affair

                 according to Ordr given

                   At our Coming over into Virga from Capt George Masons

                 we gave yor EXnCY an Accot of our design, knowing yor Exncy

                 had our Orders sent by our Maryland Post. We have been

                 up with the Emperor of Piscattoway at his ffort beyond the

                 ffirst mountain; who Calling his Great men together readily

                 Complyed to our proposalls, being willing to Return into

                 Maryland again making Satisfaction for the Negro, tho still

                 denyes the murther and that they give this Satisfaction rather

                 than have any difference, which we humbly Signifye to yor

                 Exncy & Remain
