          p.40 thereof, otherwise it must rest as a Charge upon Mr Plater the

             Collector there for Suffering her to Lade without Security in

             which Case We desire you to take his Answer in writing and

                       Having Notice from our Agent in Scotland

             abt two That a Briganteen called the May flower Burthen

             abt 50 tons James Scott Master lately arrived

             &cathere with Tobacco and Cotton from Maryland

      

             And that a Vessell called the James Burthen about 170

             Tons John Kyte Master was ready to Sail from thence to

             Maryland—We desire you will please to Enquire how and

             by what means the sd Briganteen Came to Clear And what

             Security was taken for her going to some Port of England

             Causing the Bond (if any) to be Vigorously prosecuted of

             which in due time we shall expect an Accot from you.

               And we likewise desire you to Cause the other Vessell to

             be seized and prosecuted with the prohibitted Goods on Board

             at her Arrivall in Maryland We are

               An Accot of the Arms &ca brought in and in Good Ordr

             lodged at the House of Majr Dorsey within the Port of

             Annapolis, the 18th day of September Anno Domini 1696.

             Armes lodged Six brass Trumpets—2o: Dragoon Sadles &

             at Majr Dorseys bridles with Caps for the Carabines—Six Dragoon

             House &ca Drums & Sticks & 1 2: pair of heads and 3: sets of

             Snares—200 Pistolls with Round locks, Varnisht Stock and

             brass Caps—Six brass powder Tryars and 2 fflags; 1 great &

             the other Small--100 Carabines with round locks & Varnisht

             Stocks 100 Carabine belts and swivells—80: Byonets & 8o

             white belts 80: Cartouch boxes & 80 black belts—20: Granado

             punches—-25: Pick Axes—25 Mattocks—5o set of wheele
