Ordrd Mr Iames Saunders & Mr Thos Staley Carry the sd
message to his Excy and Councill who returne and say they
haue dd the same
By the house of Dellegates Iuly 22d 1699:
May it Please yor Excy.
The small Donation wee have made to yor Excy we Grant
was proportioned to our psent Circumstances not to yor deserts
nor our Inclinations wee are Glad to have it accepted
Wee acknowledge that since yor Excys arivall our Charge
has been small and yor Govrnmt Light & hope by yor Excys
good Conduct civill affaires are now soe Establisht that they
may Continue soe that restraint of our Liberallity wch yor Excy
seemes to hint at wee hope to Improue to yor Excys Honr and
and future Benefitt and Satisfaction by firmly Engageing the
affections of the people to yor Service
Wee are sorry yor Excy found such Difficultyes & scarcety
of Provisions here at yor first arivall
It is to be Considered that the Scarcity was Genll every one
had much adoe to provide for themselfs and that wee suppose
restrained the Countrys usuall Civillity and Supplyes & that
Greater plenty will succeed. yor Excy may please to Consider
that this Province has but very Lately been Received into his
Majtyes Immediate Protection & hithertoe things scarce reduced
to or fixed in a Certainty & therefore may be Excused if wee
are not soe well provided of a house for a Govr as those that
from the begining were soe but as wee have formerly Consid-
ered others in respect of a house we will give you noe occassion
to think you are less in our Esteeme then any predecessor nor
