By his Excy the Govr & Councill in Assembly
Iuly the 17th 1699.

Upon Consideration of this Letter Annexed and the many
Irregularitys and undecent Marriages Contracted in this pro-
vince as have been reprsented to the Board, the Law touching

p. 75

that Subject is recomended to your Consideracon Whether it
be not adviseable to prohibit Iustices Marrying of persons
where there is a Minister in the County or in the next Adja-
cent And to prvent any persons from Enjoying the benefitt of
Lawfull Marriage in this province where the same is so un-
lawfully and undecently done as the Case in the said Letter
mentions whether it may not be adviseable to Incert a Declar-
atory Clause in the said Law what Certificate shall be Suffi-
cient for any persons prtending to have been married together
in Pensilvania Virginia or any the Adjacent Governmts so as
to tollerate their Cohabiting together as such

This house have recd the Message this day sent by the
honble Iames Frisby and Majr Iohn Hamond and have Con-
sidered the Same and humbly Desire that his Maty's Attorney
Genll may prepare a Bill thereon and prsent for the Consider-
acon of this house Signed p Order

Came Major Ennalls Mr Elisha Hall, Dr Lockerman and Mr
Briscoe who bring a Bill for Killing of Wolves read the first
time and will pass.
A Bill to Impower the purchasers of Subscriptions to the
Freeschools to recover the Same read the first time and will
pass with Amendment
Sent p Esqr Tasker and Col Hutchins with the Indenture
of Returne of Iames Philips a Delegate for Baltemore County.
The Board Adjourned 'till 2 of the Clock in the afternoon

The Councill Sate, prsent as in the Morning
Came Mr Iohn Hall and Mr Walter Campbell And brought
the Bill to Impower purchasers of Subscriptions to the ffree-
schools to receive the Same which was read the second time
& passed.
A Bill for killing of Wolves read the 2d time and passed
