Mr Philip Lynes of Charles County his petition being read
praying his Excy to preferr that Sherriffs Office upon him, and
lying under Consideration, he is reprsented to be the person
very well Affected to the Governmt. but in no wise qualifyed
to be Sherr of that County haveing much abused his Creditt,
and the people of the County much Averse thereto.
Upon due Consideration had of a Certein petition prsented
to this Board by the honble Henry Iowles lately Iudge of the
Court of Vice Admiralty setting forth that for want of a
Settled Method what ffees the Iudge Advocate and other offi-
cers of that Court ought to take he had not recd any ffees
accrueing to him as Iudge of that Court and Especially on
Condemnation of a Certeine ffrench prize Called the Iohn of
Bordeaux wherefore prayed that some Settlemt might be
made therein
And thereupon it is Ordered by this Board that Col Henry
Iowles do Ask Demand and receive as his ffee upon the Con-
demnation of the Ship and Cargo in the said petition men-
tioned Seaven p Cent of the full Value thereof According to
Appraismt

Came Col Iohn Thompson and five other Members who
brought back his Excys Comission from the house.
His Excy was pleased to lay before the Board Mr Isaack
Millers Letter of the 18th of October 1698 which is as fol-

I am honord with yours in Councill of the 2 2d of Iuly last for
which I humbly thank Your honors for such your Comission in
Answer whereto I have recd your honors Bills of Excha and 5s
piece sent Mr Payen for Value of 250l all which Bills I find
will meet with due paymt He observes your honors Order in
investing the sd value & sending the said Effects by first ships
