Then sent to the house the following messages Viz^t

By his Ma^tys Councill No^r the 12^th 1698

The Bills sent by M^r John Whittington and severall others
of the houses members are under Consideracon of this Board.
And We desire to know the houses Resolutions as to the
Bills proposed by us to the which your Remarques and
Amendm^ts haveing been proposed the passing of them ought
not to be suspended without upon them both.

By Ex^cy the Gov^r and Councill in Assembly,
Novemb the 12^th 1698.

A Rumour being spread a broade th^t a Letter which was
signed by the house of Delegates and sent to the Lord Bishop
of London or some other pson was Altered and that another
which was not the same but another sence sign'd by the hon^ble
Rob^t Smith Esq^r Speaker was sent Therefore It is reco-
mended to the house that inquiry be made thereinto that if
any such Misfeazance has been Comitted the person or psons
guilty there of may be punished according to Law

Or otherwise if noe such thing can be made appeare that
the Divulgers of such Reports may be punished they being of
very ill Consequence and tending to grate Disturbance in this
province by amusing the good people thereof & infusing fears

of the Councill of Trade and Plantations.
The Order of his Ma^ty in Councill about the boundarys of
this Lre & a Duplicate of their Lordps Letter of the 2^d of 7^th
1697 sent to the house of Delegates by the hon^ble Thomas
Tench Esq^r and Colonel John Addison
Came from the house Major Hamond and Cap^t Hill and
acquainted the Board that they are appointed by the house to
assist M^r W^m Taylard in apportioning the publick Levy.
Came Doctor Jacob Lookerman and M^r Thomas Hicks and
bring up the Bill for assessing the publick Levy Which is read
