of the Council of Maryland, 1778-1779. 359

Mr Robtt Buchanan, this will cost upwards of 30000£. Mr
Dallam has purchased in Kent 500 Blls of Flour, we do not
know what he has done in Harford. Colo Henry has engaged
about 1000 Blls of Flour in Kent, he has agreed to give the Phila-
delphia Price, deducting Freight and Carriage, and some
Wheat. We have wrote him to make his future Contracts
certain, he complains of Purchasers coming from Delaware,
amongst them, Continental Purchasers, and raising the Price.
Colo Perkins in Kent has bought upwards of 200 Blls at £15
p bl the Casks at 25/. he has also engaged about 1000 Bushels
of Wheat at the Current Price when delivered & expects
about 200 Barlls & 1500 Bushels more; we wrote him, as we
did Colo Henry, as to uncertain Contracts. There is yet
Wheat in Balto Harford, Montgomery, Frederick, Kent & a
Little in Queen Anns, but we do not know where the Price will
stop. We hear there's a good Deal of Flour in Baltimore,
we expect Mr Robt Buchanan down Daily and design to con-
sult, whether the deficient Quantity may not be got on the
Water at once; we had better procure it, even at an advanced
Price, and Save the Delay and Expence of Carriage We have
advanced thirty thousand Dollars on the Recruiting Service.

C. C.

We never knew, 'til by a Letter from Genl Washington, recd
last Sunday, that the whole of the German Regiment was
placed to Maryland, and our Rifle Companies under Colo
Rawlings a distinct Corps, presuming the latter was a Part of
our Quota, we have drawn the 400 Dollars to the Officers:
the other Day we advanced him 1000 Dollars for recruiting
and, as he was ordered on a detached Service, we drew
£1000 to be expended in Sugar, Coffee Spirits &ca for the
Officers, as is customary for our Officers & others: they never
having yet been benefitted in that Way and the Service they
go on, rather than any other, requiring it, we shall charge
these Advances to the Continent Pray dispatch Colo Hyde &
Mr Howard with as much of the Money as can be got, less
than 200,000^ will do nothing
We are &ca
Delegates from Maryland
in Congress.
