D. them into a complyance (I am of oppinion it is absolutely necessary for his Mats service to support the ffive Nations of Indians) the service they perform against the ifrench cannot be easily done by Christian forces without a charge greater than the Province can bear the Revenue whereof being exhausted by the dayly charge of the Warr and notwithstand ing an Additional Duty raised for payment of the Debts of this Governmt the Emergencies that happen dayly are so great that all is expended and the province some thousand pounds indebted and this I cannot avoid vnless I have some assist ance of Men or Money. I see the sad experience of an Indian Warr in New Eng land at this day where notwithstanding the English are very numerous have many Towns and the Enemy (as is said) not P. 279 above 300 yet these Infidels gain dayiy vpon them. I dont question your Excells Zeal for his Mats service & the publick good and hope by your influence the next Assembly of your province may be induced to a consideration of their Neighbours hardships and the ill consequences of a ifrench power growing & incroaching vpon his Mats Subjects, not only of New-York, but of all the rest of his Mars Territories & Dominions of this Main of America. Copy Intelligence Sr from New England In my last I gave you an Accot of the Arrivall of
a Vessell from Canida, which was dispatched from hence to fetch home our prisoners there, and also sent you a Copy of Count ifrontiniacks Letter directed to my self received by the said Vessell, since which Mr Mathew Carey, who was imployed vpon that occasion has delivered a further informa tion in Writing vnder his hand of some things which occurred Whitehall whils't he was at Quebeck, of considerable import, a Copy whereof I here inclose for your Exncies satisfaction & advisemt what improvemt may be made thereof I have at present kept it private here, its only with my self & the Secretary; he had the Account thereof from severall Officers there, principally from the person whose name & quality is mentioned in the Marjant of the said Information, he also told him that he was
