    Warrant for Trusty and well Beloved We greet you well,

    issuing pardon for Whereas the Case of George Mason and Willm

    Mason & Burley condemned about four Years ago for the

    Burley. murther of John Payne our Collector on Petuxent

    River hath been Represented to Us in Councill whereby it

    appeared that one John Woodcock likewise convicted with

    them was executed for the Said Murther upon his Confession

    that he only committed the Fact, & that the sd George Mason

    and William Burley were no otherwise Concern'd in it, then

    being present at that time on board the Yatch, Whereupon

    the Assembly of Maryland reprieved them and in Reguard

    of the great charge they have been to the Countrey by their

    Long Imprisonmt they have Requested you to recomend them

    to Us as fit Objects of our mercy. We having taken the Prem

    ises into our Royall Consideration are graciously pleased to

    Signifye our Will and pleasure to you, that you Cause a

    Pardon to be passed under the Seale of that our Province of

    Maryland unto them the sd George Mason and Willm Burley

    for the Offence aforesd with Such Clauses as are Usuall and

    Necessary in this behalfe, And for so doing this Shall be

    Your Warrant And So we bid you ffarewell. Given at our

    Court at Kensington the 20th day of ffebruary 1695/6 in the

    Eighth Year of our Reign.

         To all persons to whom these prsents shall come,

   

    murther of Greeting. Whereas George Mason and Willm Bur

    Mr. Payn ley stand convicted and Condemned for the murther

    of John Payne our late Collector of Petuxant River in our p. 25

    Province of Maryland, and that they have been Reprsented to

    Us as fltt objects of our mercy in as much as the sd Murther

    was principally committed by one John Woodcock who was

    Executed for the Same, and they the sd George Mason and
