Maryland ss. Lib. H. D. Capt Bradlys Francis Nicholson Esqr Capt Genll & Governr in P. 220 Comission for being Chief in & over their Mats Province & Territory of Commadore Maryland in America To Capt Daniell Bradley Comander of the Ship Joseph of London Greeting Whereas severall Masters and Comanders of Ships now Riding at Anchor wth their Vessells at the Mouth of Petuxant River within this Province have by their humble petition this day set forth unto me that being left behind wthout any Con voy they therefore desire some power might be granted unto you the said Capt Danll Bradley in the nature of Comadore to Cornand the rest of the said Ships left behind & give such Sayling Ordrs & Instructions for the safe conveying of the said Ships as in such Case is Usuall and being ready & Willing to gratify the said Masters request, it appearing for their Mats Service, have therefore (by Virtue of their Mats Royall Comis sion unto me the said Francis Nicholson Esqr (under the Broad Seal of England Granted bearing Date the 10th day of ffebry Anno 1693) for the Governmt of their Province of Maryland aid) thought fit for the reasons afd to constitute & appoint you the aforenamed Capt Dan” Bradley (having especiall trust & Confidence in your Loyalty, Courage, Care, Conduct & cir cumspection) to Comand and Convoy for England all such Ships & Vessells as being now left behind shall freely consent to Come under your Convoy, by virtue of this Comission granted unto you, Giveing & Granting unto you the said Daniell Bradley hereby full power & Authority to Encounter fight burn & destroy; as also to apprehend Seize & take any their Mats Enemies in your Voyage home for England, as like wise give such Sayling Orders & Instructions to the severall Masters under your said Convoy as by the said Mastrs & you the said Daniell Bradley shall (before your departure from this Province) be agreed upon, And that you generally Act & do in all things for the Service of their Mats & good of this ffleet committed unto your Charge as fully and Amply as any Commadore ought or should do; Provided you Surcease this power & Authority at all time & times as you shall happen to come under the protection or in the Company of any of their Mats Men of Warr during this Voyage, at the end whereof this Comission shall Cease; Given under my hand and Seal this first day of July in the Seaventh year of their Mats Reign &ca Annoq Domi: 1695.
