Journall of the Councill in Assembly
Octobr the 2d 1695.
Whereas the Genll Assembly of this Province (by Severall
adjournmtS and Prorogations) stood prorogued untill the
second day of Octobr instant, being by Proclamation (bearing
Date the 19th day of August last past) appointed to meet at
the port of Annapolis to do and Consent unto such things as
by the favour of God should then and there happen to be
Ordained for the Glory of God his Mats Service and the good
of the Countrey, But it so falling out that (through Stress of
weather) neither the Gentlemen of his Mats Honrble Councill
nor a Sufficient number of the members of the worshipfull the
house of Burgesses could meet to sit according to Proroga-
tion, on that day his Exncy was thereupon pleased to Order his
Mats Writt to issue for the further prorogueing the sd
Assembly untill the next day after the which was accordingly
issued and sent unto the house of Delegates and Burgesses,
the tenor whereof follows in these words, Vizt
William the third by the Grace of God of England, Scot-
land ffrance, and Ireland King Defendr of the ffaith &ca To
our Councillors the Delegates & Representatives of the
severall Counties of our Province of Maryland, Greeting
Whereas upon the 22th day of May last past, Wee thought fit
to prorogue you untill the tenth day of Septembr last, yet
upon further consideration We thought fit and expedient for
the good and welfare of this province and the good people
thereof (by our Proclamation bearing date the 19th day of
August last) further to prorogue you untill the 2d of Octobr
instant, at which time We Commanded the sevrall and respec-
tive Sherriffs of the severall Counties of our sd Province to
give notice to all and every of you that you should Convene
yorselves together at the Port of Annapolis upon the sd day
last mentioned, then & there to do and Consent to such things
as should by the favour of Almighty God happen to be done
and Enacted for the good and welfare of this province, Now
Know Yee th' for severall weighty reasons us thereunto move-
ing, We have thought fit and do by these presents further
prorogue you Untill the day after the date hereof; at which
