APPENDIX. After the most of the volume was in type, certain muster rolls were secured by the Maryland Historical Society at an auction sale of manuscripts in New York City. These are printed in an appendix, as they were procured too late to be inserted in their proper chronological order. In addition to these, the appendix contains a list of militia who served in 1777, which was found among the papers deposited by the Johns Hopkins University, a list of the Select Militia of 1781, enlisted from Frederick County, and a roll of the crew of the Ship Defence, compiled by Mr. Philip D. Laird, from papers in the Land Office. It has seemed best to include all available rolls in this volume, so the muster rolls of the Flying Camp Companies, and the Eastern Shore Militia Companies ordered to Virginia, first printed in Volume XII of the Archives of Maryland, are reprinted in this appendix.
