during the War of the American Revolution, 1775-83. 585 ROLLS OF MARYLAND MEN IN LEE'S DRAGOONS. CAPT.-MAJOR-LT. COL. HENRY LEE Henry Lee was commissioned Captain of a Company of Virginia Dragoons June 18th, 1776. This Company was attached to the 1st Continental Dragoons March 31st, 1777. RESOLVES OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 7 APRIL, 1778. "Resolved, That captain H. Lee be promoted to the rank of major- commandant; that he be empowered to augment his present corps by inlistment to two troops of horse, to act as a separate corps." RESOLVES OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 28 MAY, 1778. "Resolved, That major Henry Lee's corps of partizan light dragoons consist of three, instead of two, troops." RESOLVES OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 13 JULY, 1779. "Resolved, That capt. M'Lane's company, now attached to the Del aware regiment, and the dismounted dragoons belonging to major Lee's partizan corps, be formed into a fourth troop and added to the corps: this troop to be commanded by capt. M'Lane, and to serve on foot." RESOLVES OF CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 14 FEBRUARY, 1780. "Resolved, That recruiting money be furnished to major Lee, to enable him to inlist seventy privates, to serve as dismounted dragoons in addition to those now in the corps; the whole to be formed into three troops." RESOLVES OF THE MARYLAND ASSEMBLY 11 APRIL, 1780. "Resolved, That the officers and soldiers raised in this state, and now in colonels Hazen's, Spencer's, Gist's and major Lee's corps, be entitled to receive the same privileges, bounties, and cloathing, that the officers in the line have or are entitled to receive under the resolution of the 4th of December, 1778, and the act of assembly, entitled, An act relating to the officers and soldiers of this state, in the American army, and other purposes therein mentioned, passed at a session of assembly, begun and held at the city of Annapolis, on Thursday the 22d day of July, in the year 1779."* * Also see pages 596 and 597. 38 |
