Mr Edward Dorsey came here last night very late and brought
news that the Indians had robb'd John Marriott, beaten him and
his wife and turned them out of Doores, I Designe to day
being the second of September to goe up and carry tenn or a
dozen men along and see what damage the Indians have done,
if you please to send me any further ordrs be pleased to direct
it to Towne to him who is

The occassion of my present presumption is to informe your
Lspp of a Robbery committed by the Sinniquo Indians (as is
Supposed) on the first day of this instant at the house of one
John Marriott at the head of Anne Arrundell River upon the
Ridge formerly Peter Porters. The Inclosed was sent to me,
and the same day being our Election day I had the Oportunity
to speake with the said Marriot which for substance gave me
this following Narration (vizt) that nine Indians came to his
house the first of September instant in the morning and
pressed hard for Entrance into his house which he resisted
takeing his Gunn in his hand, and standing upon his guard,
willing his wife to take her Children and make escape to the
next Plantation, which was hindered by more Indians till then
undiscovered, but still appeareing more and more to the
Quantity of One hundred or thereabouts, they pressed soe
sore upon him that into the house they would goe, noe threats
or signes of Anger would deterr them out of which they have
carried away and spoyled all that he hath in the world, and
killed his hoggs which he saith he had thirty in a Penn wch
troubled his corne field, some of which they have taken away
others they killed for pastime and lett lye that of that num-
ber he finds onely three or four alive, his Cattle he knows not
what they have killed, for they have all forsaken his Plantation,
his Tobacco which was hanging in his tobacco houses they
have throwne downe and spoiled, all which tendeth to his
greate loss, and to the putting the neighbouring Plantations in
greate feare soe that they are many of them drawne together
for their future safety. In humble manner I have truly
although briefly acquainted yor Lspp with this Robbery I hum-
