agree, and Conclude the Bounds with the said Markham, and
such other agents from Propr Penn, as should be a like quali-
fied with those of Maryland. To this Letter Captn Markham
gaue answer he would attend at the time, and place appointed
by his Ldpp. The Comissrs from the L. B. accordingly went,
and Markham on Sett purpose, to be out of the way, goeth to
New York. The Maryland Comissrs sent an Expresse twice
with Letters to Captn Markham which he received, but Vouch-
safed noe answer to them; And as soone as he certainely
knew that the L. B. Comissrs were on theire way downe the

Bay, Mr William Haige (who was not a little sensible of Mark-
hams disappointment and rudenesse to those Comrs) was
desired to come after them; but soe it was Contrived and
orderd, that Mr Haige was to be at the place a day after the
Comissrs were gone; pretending great trouble that Captn Mark-
ham could come noe sooner from New York. After his Lopps
Comissrs were returned, there came a Letter from Markham
to the L. B:, in which many apologies were made, and pardons
desired with great, and uery Earnest requests, that the L. B.
would appoint another time, and place of meeting, which was
accordingly granted; And in September 1682, his Lopp with
the same Comrs went vp the Bay; of which Capt' Markham
had notice given him, who in Answer, gave assureance of his
readinesse to attend; But insteed of that, Markham goes to
the head of Delaware, and there keepes out of the way Vntill
the fireing of some Gunns in Delaware gaue Markham some
Confidence to beleeue the L B was return'd from New Castle,
where his Lopp was forct to goe to find the Gentleman, as also
to vpland, where Markham came at last, not imagineing to
find his Lopp there; But there to his great Confusion he mett
the L. B: Tho' noe buisnes was don; for tho' Captn Markham
gaue the L: B: Vnder his hand he would follow him to the
head of Chesepeake Bay to take obseruation there, he rudely
disappointed his Lopp, as he had don his Comissrs in June
afore, makeing him Stay at New Castle foure or fiue daies for
his Comeing. After this, because the L: B was resolued to
Execute his Maiesties Comands soe farr as on his part he
could, he Caused obseruations to be taken, as there had bin
others taken the 10th of June; All which agreed to Lesse
then a minute. Thus much touching his Lopps readines to giue
obedience to his Maiesties Comands contained in that Letter
of the 2d of Aprill 1681. Now to come to the true reason why
the Agents of Propr Penn did not meete to Joyne with his
Lopps Comrs in the buisness of the Bounds, as was by his Majtie
comanded; was thus; After Mr William Haige had bin with
the L: B: as is afore mentioned, many priuate obseruations
