in Somerset & Worcester where, we are told, a good many
yet are, before Mr McGerment came in, the Prices at 1/. for
stalled Cattle and 9d for inferior and to allow for the fifth
Quarter. These Prices are lower than Beef can generally be
got at, though much higher than Mr McGerment says he has
given. We were also appointing Gentlemen in most of the
Counties on the Eastern Shore to purchase Pork and thought
of limiting the Price not to exceed £5. a Hundred, but, on
Mr McGerment shewing us he could not exceed £4. and
informing us that he had already Persons in each County, we
shall not appoint any, though we are fearful no great Quantity
will be got at £4. and, in our Opinion, you cannot too soon
have Mr McGermont or some discreet Person, go round to
those employed and give a greater Latitude, unless the Pork
comes in as you wish. William Winder Junr and Levin
Woolford of Somerset County, John Richardson & William
Wise of Worcester County, Nathaniel Potter of Caroline,
Robert Caile Harrison and Joseph Richardson of Dorchester
County, we thought of as proper People to collect Pork, and
recomend it to you to add some of them to those already
appointed; they are Gentlemen who, we believe, would take
the Trouble to forward this necessary Piece of Public Busi-
ness. We are Sir &ca
