p. 50 Eodem die Whereas it hath beene doubted by the Severall
Sheriffs what tobacco may be distrained on by them for his
Lopps Rents and the publique Levyes The Governour and
Councell doe declare That all the publiq Levyes are debts
due to his Lopp the Rt Honble the Lord Propry for defraying
the publique Charge and therefore by the Law of the Prov-
ince to be paid upon the place before all other debts due to
any private pson whatsoever as his Lopps Rents are and that
for that reason the severall and respective Sheriffs ought and
are hereby impowered to Levy all the said Rents and publick
dues by distresse upon any tobacco being and remaining upon
any plantation within their Severall and respective Bailiwicks
though marked or prtended to be marked by any other person
for his private debt whatsoever.
