Lib. R. R. greater Confidence then in this or Province nor at any time
more then now in this time of Danger by the Incursions of
Foreigne Indians, when the minds of People ought to be most
vnited & whereas divers good Lawes are now in force agst
divulgers of falce news Rumors & reports though (wee feare)
either forgotten by the People, or neglected to be executed by
the Majestrate Wee, do therefore by this our Proclamacon
require all the good people of this our Province to take notice
of the said Lawes Wee being resolved to see them exactly
prosecuted & duely executed & to th' end do by this or
Proclamacon strictly Charge all Officers both millitary &
Civill to make diligent enquiry after all divulgers of falce
news & reports, tending to the disturbance of the peace of
this or Province, & them found out to apprehend & bring
p. 187 before some Majestrate theire to finde sureties for their good
behaviour & appearance at or then next Provintiall Court, to
the end they may be proceeded agst according to Lawe &
receive Condigne punishment for the same Given at our City
of St Maries vnder the great seale of this our said Province of
Maryland the ffourteenth day of July in the sixth yeare of or
Dom &ca Annoq Dom. One thousand six hundred Eighty &

At a Council held at the City of St. Maries the One and
twentieth day of July Anno Domini 1681:

Philip Calvert Esqr Chancelor
William Calvert Esqr Secry

John Hoskins of St Maries County according to summons
from his Lspp to him formerly directed makes his appearance
at this board
Who was charged with saying in some Company that if he
had said half soe much as Capt Coode had said he would runn
away too, and being required to testifie upon oath what it was
Capt Coode should say to cause those expressions to come
from him being duely sworne saith that possibly in drink such
or the like words might by him be spoken but that Coode
should speake any thing mooveing him thereunto he knowes
not being sometimes apt to talk at randome in drink and
speake what he cann give noe Accompt of
William Hodgeson according to order of this board the last
Councill Day makes his appeareance and haveing taken his
oath upon the holy Evangelist saith that being up at a horse
Race at Mr Rumseys in Company with Simon Stacy and
others he told Stacy that he heard he had fforted in his house,
