386 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1678-1681 .
Lib. R. or betray you or any of you or any English Plantation or
People You are to the best of your skill knowledge and
endeavour, and to the utmost of your might and power, to
fall upon, pursue, fight, take, kill, vanquish and Destroy all
such Enemys, or otherwise if you shall be at any time over-
powered, you are to contrive and make what honble retreate
possibly you cann with your Company for such further aid
and assistance as shall be Deemed necessary for your
Recruite with regard had to the number and power of your
Enemy according to the tenor of your said Instructions; ffor
all which this shall be your sufficient power.
Given under our hand and Seale at Armes this first Day of
July in the sixth yeare of our Dominion &c Annoq Domini
1681:

Wch foregoeing Instructions and Comissions were enclosed
in the foll Letter to Capt Brant viz

Capt Brandt
Yours of yesterdays Date I recd: and have Communicated
to my Councill the contents thereof, as touching your Desire
to entertain Peter Achellis it is approoved off and he may at

p. 207 any time be joined with any other Indian Interpreter as you
shall see occasion, ffor the rest of your Letter the Commis-
sions and Instructions inclosed will fully answer, your con-
stant care in adviseing of all Occurrences I commend and
Desire yu to continue the same to Your Lo. ffriend
St Maries July pmo 1681: C: Baltemore

At a Councill held at St Maries the 14th Day of July Anno
Dmi 1681:

The Rt honbl8 the Lord Propry
Philip Calvert Esqr Chancellor
William Calvert Esqr Secry
Coll Henry Darnall Present
George Talbot Esqr
William Digges Esqr

At wch time Mr John Tyrling according to summons makes
his appearance and being called is charged with haveing
uttered mutinous and seditious words to the people his Audi-
tors Sayeing that his Lspp the Lord Propry had furnished the
Indians with powder and shott and noe wonder .then the
English had their throats cutt when the Propry gave them
powder and shott for that purpose & words to that effect
for Evidence is called William Hodgeson who Declared
That James Rumsey Reported that Mr Tyrling should say
