Whereupon issued from his Lspp: these following ordrs viz.

John Munns
Being credibly informed that there is lately killed in the
upper parts of Charles County (where you are an Inhabitant)
an Indian belonging to the Emperor of Pascattoway, and
highly suspected to be done p some English either of the
Collony of Virga or this Province contrary to our Articles
concluded wth the sd Indians, the prservation whereof as we
doe expect on their parts soe it is but just that wee should
also observe and keepe them on ours. We being willing
therefore to that end and purpose to be rightly informed
thereof have thought fitt to Authorise and empower and wee
doe hereby Authorise and Empower as also strictly charge
and Command you John Munns of the said County
thoroughly to examine and make inquiry into the whole
matter, when, where, & in what manner the said Indian was
killed, and by whom if possibly by any meanes you can effect
the same, an Exact Accot whereof you are to certifie undr
your hand or bring the same yor Self unto us at our house at
Mattapony in Pottuxent River wth all expedition, to the end
that such due course may be taken as our Self and Councill
shall think fitt and as ought to be done therein. Whereof
you are not to faile. Given undr our hand the first Day of
June in the ffifth yeare of our Dominion &c. Annoq Dmi. 1680

Capt Aspinoll
You are hereby willed and required forthwith upon sight
hereof to make all quick dispatch downe to Mattapony there
duely to answer and true and right information make unto such
matters and thinges as by our Self and our Councill shall be
thought fitt to be offered and proposed unto you, whereof
you are not to faile. Given undr our hand the first Day of
June in the ffifth yeare of our Dominion &ca Annoq Dmi. 1680.

Yours of the 29th of last moneth I recd: p James Small-
wood, and here inclosed returne you an ordr to Capt Aspinoll
to come before the Councill at Mattapony with all expedition,
and likewise another ordr to John Munns to make Inquiry
into the murdr of that Indian in those parts, wch I am very
willing to be rightly informed off; That ordr to Capt Aspinoll
forward to him without delay, and when you shall certainly
undrstand that he is upon his Journey downe, then and not
before thn are to convey that other to Munns with all speed ;
This is what at prsent is thought needfull by
