240 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1678-1679.
Lib. R. Queried how many Dales Journey from those ffour fforts
mentioned (from whence he came) to the Pascattoway ffortt,
to wch he made answer that he was three Moones comeing
from thence.
Qu: Whither he intended to returne back thither again
alone
Answ: Yes.
Qu: Whither the Susqs did intend to come downe against
the Pascattoways and the English in Virginia, Whereunto the
Speaker Replyed That there was Another Indian at the Pas-
cattoway ffort wch was taken prisoner and had lately made his
escape from those two middle Townes of the Senniquos with
whom the Susqs lived who was ordred within three Dayes to
be putt to the ffire wch made him Adventure his life in flight
rather then stay there to be burnt, The said Indian does
Relate.
That the Greate man of the Susqs made a Speech to this
effect. That he was pretty well Satisfied with the Revenge
he had taken of the Virginians by the help and assistance of
those Indians And now did intend to fall upon the Pascatto-
way Indians and the English in Maryland for that he had
Done little or nothing there yett but resolved now to Doe
what mischiefe he could to them, that a Considerable pty of
them were gone forth before the said Indian made his escape
wch was about 20 Dayes since.
Then Queried What fforce those two fforts might con-
sist off
Answ: soe strong they could not express it.
The said Greate men of the Susqs likewise Declared that
he would never have any peace with the English, or the Pas-
cattoway, Choptico, or any other Indians whatsoever on the
South Side of Potapsco to whom he will never cease to Doe
all the mischiefe he cann, but for those on the other side of
Potapsco they have noe prejudice agt them haveing never
recd: any injury from them and therefore know noe reason
they have to meddle with them. He likewise further did
Declare that they had lately killed some English in Maryland
but the English had laid it upon the Pascattoway Indians.
Queried of that Indian that came from the aforesaid four
townes of the Sinniquos & intended thither back again
whither he resolved to live there or not.
Answ: that he had recd: soe much civility & kindness from
them that he did long to see them as much as his owne
ffriends & acquaintance, but would returne back again in two
yeares time unless they should send him upon some Message
sooner (whereof he at present knew nothing) otherwise he
intended to stay among them soe long, but then resolved to
come back
