Letter Bk. IV
|
next Letters to His Ldp take the Liberty to mention once
more old Mr Key as a Person worthy & proper to be appointed
in case of another Vacancy a Member of the Council & hope
you will second my Application. With regard to Your propo-
sition relative to Dr Scott I shall only say that if His Lordship
will be pleased to approve thereof I will speak to Mr Ross &
him & with the Formers Consent make the Alteration : After
what I have already wrote I need not tell you again how
anxious I am to give him some convincing Proof of my
Regard & Friendship, I am sure he will merit it from His
Lordship & I believe there is no Person in the Province more
esteemed by the Gentlemen of the Council in general than
himself. I presume you have long before this time received
an Account of the Enemy's having taken possession of New-
foundland, of which Conquest however we hope they will be
soon dispossessed as Troops have sailed from Hallifax for that
purpose, & I doubt not but you will also receive authentic
Accounts in a very few Days of the entire Reduction of Cuba
as a Vessel which arrived the Ist Inst at Philaa brought an
Account of the Havanna's being surrendered to the Earl of
Albermarle the 14th of last Month, on which glorious Event I
most heartily congratulate you & am —
P. S. Mr Ridout having desired me to pay you £1.5 on
his Accot I now remit you a Bill for £125 15 81/2 which with
the 9s 31/2 d overremitted last time makes £126 5.
