By his Exncie the Gouernr & Councill in Assembly
May 24th 1692.
This Board think fitt to putt [the house in mind of preparing
a] bill for the releife of Negroes & Slaues [from the barbarous
and inhuman] vseage of their unreasonable Masters [&c too
frequently practised in this Province. Re]comended to them
by his [Excellency yesterday at the Conference and particu-
larly] think it but just and [reasonable that the malotta girl of
Thomas Courtneys,] born of an Engli[sh woman and a Chris-
tian, having both her ears] cropt close to [her head by the
hands of her tyrannical master and] mistress, be forth[with
manumitted and set free, the least recompense that] can be
bestowed on [her for so barbarous a cruelty, and that a clause]
for that purpose [be inserted in the said Bill]

the Majority of Voices to be sett free.
Severall Bills brought from the Gouernor & Councill by
Capt Courts, which were sent to be Engrossed.
An Act for Appeales & regulateing Writts of Error, read
and Voted whethr the same shall be Limitted to a certaine
sume or noe, and Carryed in the Affirmatiue, that noe ap-
peales shall be brought vnder the Sume of 1200l tob the which
was ordered to be incerted.
An Act for secureing Creditors read & passed the first
Reading.
An Act agt importation of Convicted ffellons into this Prov-
ince, read & passed the 1t reading
An Act concerning Negroes & Slaves, read & passed the
third reading.
All the afd Bills were sent to the Gouernr & Councill by
Mr Wynne
The house Adjournes till to Morrow Morning Nine of the
Clock.
