of the Council of Safety, 1776. 91

[Council to Hooper.]

To Brigadier General Hooper

Sir.
Your letter of the 19th of July was this Day handed to the
Council of Safety and agreeable to your requisition we have
sent you inclosed an order upon the Eastern Shore Treasurer
for £300, to be applied to the pay and subsisting of the
Militia within your District when called into service. Your
Arrangement of the Militia meets with the entire approbation
of this Board.
We have just received information that a part of Dunmore's
Squadron have moved from the Mouth of Saint Marys River
pretty far up Potowmack, with intent to wood and water,
which they are in the greatest distress for the want of, when
they obtain those Articles it is not improbable but they may
think proper to visit you for Fresh provisions; should that
event happen we have full Confidence that every Military
exertion will be used to give them a proper reception.
