Thursday 18 July 1776.

Council met. Present the same Members as on yesterday,
except M^r Hall.
Ordered That the Commissary of Stores send from the
Magazine near Capt Tootell's to the City of Annapolis 4 Bar-
rels of Gun powder.
Ordered That the Treasurer of the Western Shore pay to
Septimus Noel seven pounds ten Shillings for Boat hire to
transport the Troops to Head of Elk.
Ordered That three 4 pounders mounted on Carriages
with their necessary Apparatus and a sufficient Quantity of
powder and Ball be sent down to S^t Mary's County, and that
Major Price be requested to provide the necessary Carriages
to transport the same with all convenient Speed.
Ordered That the Treasurer of the Western Shore pay to
M^r Hugh Hopewell three hundred Pounds for the use of the
commanding Officer in S^t Mary's County, to supply the
Militia, on Duty there with Provisions.
That the said Treasurer pay to D^r Charles Troope four
pounds four Shillings and six pence.
That the said Treasurer pay to M^r Hugh Hopewell for the
use of Col. Somervill [ ]50 Currency.
That the said Treasurer pay to James Taylor eleven pounds
nineteen Shillings and two pence on Account of Gun Car-
riages.
Copy of Letter N^o 52 was sent to Col. Thomas Ewing,
Copy of N^o 53 to the commanding Officer in S^t Mary's County,
Copy of N^o 54 to Lieutenant Col. Somervill, Copy of N^o 55 to
Charles Ridgely sen^r and Copy of N^o 56 to Capt. Nathaniel
Smith.
Ordered That the commanding Officer in S^t Mary's County
take under his Charge the Schooner lately taken from the
Enemy, unlade her and put her to what use he may think best
for the public Service; likewise the Sloop which is now
aground if it can be done with Safety.
Ordered That Col. Josias Carvel Hall be requested to com-
mand such of the Officers in his Battalion who have enrolled
the number of men expressed in their respective warrants to
march with their several Divisions immediately to the City of
Annapolis.
Ordered that Major Benjamin Nicholson be requested
immediately to deliver the province Arms in his Possession to
the commanding Officer of the flying Camp Militia at Balti-
more Town or his Order.
Ordered That the Treasurer of the Western Shore pay to
Richard Sprigg two hundred and fiity pounds tor a Schooner.
