No. 62.

[Council to Harrison.]

Benjamin Harrison, Esqr
Sir. We are honoured with yours of the 16th instant, and
have sent up Captn Patterson to assist in Bringing down the
stores from the Head of Elk, he proceeds directly there with a
small armed Vessel and thirteen or fourteen able hands. We
are very desirous Captain Martin should sail immediately, his
voyage, we expect, will be of much consequence to the State
and perhaps to the common cause We understood he had
been several days ready, the detention of Captain Martin at
this season may prove the destruction of his intended voyage
— but if you think Martin's men upon all circumstances ought
to go, we give you free liberty to direct them to move for-
ward; you are better acquainted with the Importance of the
Stores at the Head of Elk, than we can be. some vessels
would have gone from hence, had not Mr Purviance wrote
us that there was no want of vessels, and therefore they were
countermanded.
