[J. Garey to Council.]
Schooner Resolution Dec. 9th 1776.
Gentlemen.
I have the Honour to inform you that I am arrived safe at
the Capes, and with a promising fair wind, also the pleasure
to inform you that the vessell goes exceedingly better than
was immagined, as comming down the Bay I have had an
opportunity of trying her on a wind and before it, and in all
manners, but going with the wind Quartering, have run the
Ninety Two Hull down in less than five Hours, and have
several times shortened sail for the Pilot Boat and of which
the pilot can assure your Honours of the truth of the above.
Your Honours may depend on my doing my utmost endeav-
ours in making the best of my way to Martinique and in every
respect fully fullfilling the Orders that you have been pleased
to Honour me with. I am and shall ever remain
Your Honours,
Most obedient hum. Servt
John Garey.
P. S. The Pilot is an able serviceable man, and has con-
ducted the vessell in every respect to my entire satisfaction.

[A. Buchanan to Council.]
Gent. Baltimore Town Dec. 9th 1776.
I desir'd Mr Stephen Stewart (who I saw sometime ago in
Baltimore) to acquaint you that it was time to send up masters
for the Gondalous. Anchors and cables we ought to have
immediately we cannot launch them with out one of them is in
my way where I want to raise a ship. Its best to have masters
before they are Launch'd as they sometimes want some alter-
ations. Capt. Matthews of Hartford mentioned to me he had
some reason to expect one of them. I immagine he will be
ready as soon as you please. Your answer will oblige, Gent.
Your most hum. Servt
Arch. Buchanan.
