[M. Driver to Council.]
December 4th 1776.
Gentlemen
Inclosed you have the Determination of the Court Martial
for the Trial of Cap" John Fauntleroy.
And I think it my duty to Inform you that after the Court
came to the Inclosed determination, Cap" Fauntleroy behaved
in a very rude and Insolent maner to the said Court Declaring
that he did not think himself Bound even to attend the said
Court nor to Return to his former duty in Battalion, while
ever his Commanding officer who complain'd against him was
Continued over him, and offered in the Presence of the Court
to give Colo Stainton fifty Pounds to Exchange a Ball with him,
and at the same time said the Court had Discharged the
matter, and looked upon it no more than a mock Trial
I am Gentlemen
Your most Humble Servt
Mat. Driver
