troops for the war. Both these propositions have been
rejected. This Day a resolve passed, that each State be at
liberty to inlist for the war or three years, what our Commis-
sioners will do I know not, nor can I advise them. I am
amazed at the obstinacy of Congress.

The paper for our money is chipped thio day. Mr Paca

arrived this morning, so that we are now represented, but if
Mr Rumsey should go to Camp, we shall soon be without a
Representation. I am, Gentlemen, with Respect & Regard

Friday 22d November 1776.

Council met. Present as on yesterday.
Ordered That the Commissary of Stores deliver to Captain

John Kiltie four Bolts of Canvas.

John Pratt of Capt. Thomas's Company being an Invalid,
Ordered that he be discharged from the Service.
Ordered That the Paymaster discharge the Pay of the said
John Pratt from the eighth of October to this present Day.
Copy of Letter No 22 was sent to Mr Amos Garret, Copy
of No 23 to the Deputies in Congress, and Copy of No 24 to
General Beall.
Adjourned till next Day 10 O'Clock.

Sir. We received yours of the 29th & 31st of last month
and should be obliged to you to send down the Blankets and
Linen by the first opportunity, to Annapolis; or to Baltimore
Town where be pleased to deliver them to Gerard Hopkins
our Commissary.

No. 23.

Gentn We send you enclosed copy of a letter from the
Convention of Dorchester County, by which you will perceive
what confusion they are in about salt. We are under some
apprehension the affair may have very serious consequences,
especially if the Enemy should send any troops to this Bay.
We have wrote the Committee and given them our opinion,
that they had better wait, a short time at least, until General
Chamberlain's return from Philadelphia, when the upper
Brigade may be put in motion. We have no salt to send
