Friday November 8th 1776

Council met. Present as on yesterday.
The Council of Safety contracted with Jacob Madeira for
two hundred pair of shoes, and ordered That Western shore
Treasurer pay to Jacob Madeira sixty Pounds, for the above
Contract.
Ordered That Western shore Treasurer pay to Woolman
Gibson thirty shillings for a Gun.
Ordered That Western shore Treasurer pay to Dr Richard
Tootle, seventeen Pounds, twelve shillings and six Pence.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Robert Cummings two
thousand Pounds.
Ordered That the said Treasurer repay to Thomas Wilson
ten Pounds, for his Time being remitted, by order of the Con-
vention.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to John Bullen two
hundred and thirty Pounds.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Colo John Murdock
one hundred and two Pounds, seventeen shillings and eight
Pence.
Ordered That those Persons who keep Potapsco and
Susquehanah Ferries be desired from time to time by night or
day, to put the Postmaster General's Rider over those Rivers,
during the Continuance of the War.
Mr Thos Smyth agreed with the Council of Safety to pur-
chase one hundred Barrels of Beef on Acct at the commission
of five pr Cent.
Council of Safety agreed with Colonel Hooe for all the salt
imported in the Brigantine Friendship at i$/ pr Bushel.
Adjourned 'till next Day 10 oClock.

War office Novr 8th 1776.
Honourable Gentlemen.
General Schuyler is very desirous of having an answer to
his Letters respecting the Nanticoke Indians. The six Nations
repeatedly complain that those of that Nation who were left
in Maryland are detained there contrary to their Inclinations.
This Idea, tho' not founded in Truth creates much uneasiness
and is constantly held up by the Indians in their conferences
with the General. Congress have before written to your
State on the Subject on which I have now the Honour of
addressing you by order of the Board of War, but have not
been favoured with an Answer, which I have it in command
to request you will now be pleased to give that it may be
