this and the upper District and that they have sufficient
reasons to believe, they are secreted by their Friends.
Under these circumstances the Committee wish the Con-
vention to take some order therein, as they conceive the inter-
position of their authority may be necessary for the speedy
apprehending them, and discouraging desertion in future.
I am likewise to mention, that there have been and still are,
several sick soldiers lodged in this town, belonging to the
continental army, and as no provision hath been made for
them I am to request your directions.

Council met. Present as on yesterday.
Ordered That Eastern shore Treasr pay to Colo James
Murray seven hundred and six Pounds, thirteen shillings &
six Pence for Militia duty.
Ordered That W: Shore Treasurer pay to Captain John
Parnham thirty four Pounds, seventeen shillings & eight
pence for Militia duty.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Thos Dent eight
Pounds, eight shillings & ten Pence for Amt of Acct
Ordered That W: Shore Treasurer pay to Thomas Dent
twenty five Pounds for enumerating Inhabitants in Part of P
Geo's County.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Wm Tuck three pounds
eleven shillings, and eight Pence for Expresses.
Copy of Letter No 180, To Geo: Cooke Esqr
James Boyd of Saint Mary's County contract with the
Council of Safety for making musquets compleatly fitted in
the usual manner at £4..5 .. each. The Council engaging
to take any quantity of him, & find Powder for their Proof.
Ordered That W: Shore Treasurer pay to Oliver Whiddor
three pounds, ten shillings for a Musquet.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Joseph Gilpin Esqr one
thousand pounds for three Companies in Caecil County.
Copy of Letter No 181 was sent to Benj. Rumsey & Jas
Tilghman Esqrs
Henry Hillam, Zerobabel Maddox and William Corbin
being called upon, and examined, and appearing to be persons
who had gone over to the Enemy and deserted from them
ordered that they stand committed until they give security in
the sum of fifty Pounds currency each, for their good
behaviour, and obeying all orders of the Honorable Con
gress and Convention.
