[Council to George Scott.]

Mr George Scott.
Sir. Linen fit for shirting or Tents is wanted — a seven or
eight hundred and Tow-Linnen. you have not informed us of
either the quality or price of your's.
Our manufacturers bring us in Linen of the first kind at 3/6
and of the latter at 2/3, if you can let your's go at that rate,
& it is good in quality, you may send it down to this Place.

Original.

[R. Thompson to Council.]

George Town Augst 3rd 1776.
May it please your Honours.
Not having known of my appointment by the Honourable
Convention as Quarter Master to the Regiment now raising
in Frederick County for the Flying Camp before the 1st of this
Inst renders it impossible for me to enter on that Service on
so short notice; although my inclination leads me to it. I
know not who can, or whether any one ought to be blamed
for neglecting to afford me timely Intelligence; but I can
assure your Honours it will always give me the highest
Pleasure to act in any situation wherein my poor though will-
ing services can be of use in the common cause of the United
States of America.
I have only to lament its being out of my power for the
reasons aforementioned, to accept of the appointment allotted
me; and to request you will tender my acknowledgements to
the Convention, in any manner the most acceptable for the
Honour intended me.
I am, May it please your Honours, with great Respect and
Esteem Your Most obedt & Hble Servt
Richard Thompson.

Original.

[Earle to Nicholson.]

Sir. August 3rd 1776.
I yesterday received a Commission from the Honble The
Council of Safety contrary to my Expectation. I have repeat-
edly said I had resigned my Commission and was determined
not to accept it as I was solicited by many respectable people
in this County to resign and offer myself as a Candidate for
the reasons set forth in the application. I am truly sensible of
the Honor intended me by the Convention and am with the
greatest respect to your board,
Sir, yr mo: hble. Servt
Jos. Earle.
