expect momently to be chas'd but depend on my heals shall as
soon as satisfied there number & the course they steer shall
make the best of my way up :

Since writing the Enclosed I have discovered the Ships
under way. I have stood into floods Bay. The Commadore

still continues at an Anchor. If I find it necessary the Country
shou'd be alarmd I will fire a Gun every 15 minutes as I
up the Bay without which they need not [be alarmed].

[A. Buchanan to Council.]

Baltimore Town May 28th 1776.
Captn Duncan Hill shipd by Capt Kell, with your approbation,
is now returned after making an attempt to get to sea. I have
lodged my protest with you but would willingly do every thing
in my power that would be of service to the public, when you
hear what Capt Hill has to say you will judge what is the best
method, he thinks he may get out but it will be attended with
an expence, if you think its best to order the vessell and cargo
or either of them to be sold and I can be of service I will do
it. depend for the best, you'll give him your instructions :

Wednesday 29th May 1776.

Met according to Adjournment. Present the same Mem-
bers as on yesterday except Mr Carroll and Mr Plater.
Richard Ridgely was appointed Assistant Clerk to the
Council and qualified before Mr Jenifer by taking the Oath
directed by the Convention.
Ordered That the Treasurer of the Western Shore pay to
Capt Thomas Ewing One hundred and fifty Pounds Common
Money on Account of his Company.
Adjourned till next Day 10 o'clock.
