To the Provincial Convention.
The humble Petition of John Baillie sheweth,
That he now lyes under the influence and suffers the
Extremity of a heavy though just sentance of the Committee
of Charles County, for having willfully though in some degree
ignorantly broke the Association of the Honourable Conti-
nental Congress.
Your Petitioner is truly sencible that the sentance passed by
the Committee is founded in justice, but executed with such
rigour, it has been with the most extreme and hazardous diffi-
culty he could obtain the necessary food to support a life ren-
dered miserable by his conduct, and the above mentioned
sentence.
Your Petitioner begs leave to inform this respectable Con-
vention that no one views his conduct in a more odious light
than himself, and should you be pleased to forgive your Peti-
tioner his past transgression and place him in his former state,
with respect to the People and Laws of this Province, he most
solemnly promises to adhere strictly for the future to the Con-
tinental Association, and to do every thing in his power which
can any way, or in any manner forward the interest of this
Country.
Your Petitioner therefor most humbly prays that you will
take his case into consideration, and that you will be pleased
in your goodness to forgive his past crime, which he will
endeavour to atone for, as far as he can, by his future conduct,
and your Petitioner as is duty bound will ever pray.
