vided I could get a Siene for each division of the Company,
and every mess furnished with a frying pan. My Company
being stationed in a Fish Country a great saving to the public
might be made by furnishing the men with materials for
catching & dressing them. If you think proper that I should
look out for Provision be pleased to inform me by Return of
Mr Steward and give me leave to draw on the treasury for the
Purchase Money. I hope tis now in your Power to furnish us
with more ammunition, and the Arms allotted for my Company
When we get the Arms be pleased also to supply me with a
quantity of Cartridge Paper. The Men are in great want of
hats & Breeches be pleased to forward them to me as soon as
possible. This County being in so very defenceless a situa-
tion obliges me to press you for the supply of arms and I
hope will sufficiently plead my excuse for so repeatedly
pressing you for them. If you should employ Mr Steward in
any way so that his return here, will be impeaded be pleased
to fall upon some method of advising me as soon as possible.
a letter sent by Collo Fitzhugh will quickly come to hand.
I am in great want of Rum for the I am Genl yr hble Servt
men, if it be possible send me some J. A. Thomas.

[Johnson to Council.]

Phila 9 March 1776.
Gentl Capt Tibbett has this moment arrived the vessell he
went out in is sold & he is in an armed vessell he has only
about 2000 Ib of powder about 6 Tons of lead Duck Ozns &c.
the vessel is on her way to the City we shall send forward the
Effects as well as the powder borrowed from our province by
Virga which is ordered out of a very scanty Stock to be returned
I am Gent very respectfully

Phila Sat. Ev. 9 March 1776.
Gent. Immediately on Receit of a Letter from Mr Purviance
by express advising us of a Man of War, being in your Bay,
we applied to Congress for one Ton of Powder, which was
readily granted, the Delegates of Virga had sent off one Ton
in a Waggon, this without sollicitation they offered us & we
excepted & have sent their order to the Waggoner to proceed
to Balt. We had an order for 1875 due Maryland from Con-
gress & this Day Capt Tibbit arrived from Statia with about
